The “Back Stories of Palm Sunday”

(Understanding how Biblical customs played a role on Palm Sunday)

In Biblical archaeology, we have a saying,

“Learning through the layers.”

Today, we will dig through five layers to greater understanding of the Biblical significance of Palm Sunday.

What was Shabbat Ha’Gadol, (The Parade of Lambs) and how was it “connected” to Palm Sunday?

What was the significance of the people:

Cutting and spreading Palm branches

Casting their garments?

What was the meaning of the cry, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord?’.

Why do we find many of the same people who no doubt welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday only four days later crying, “Crucify Him?”
